Samuel Hatmaker spent 20 years in New York City developing toys to be sold by corporate retailers. He spent time working closely with celebrities creating toys for Disney, Nickelodeon, and Marvel. Samuel’s artistic practice isn’t too far removed from his work as an artist.

In Samuel’s solo exhibition, Brick by Brick, 2D images rendered in LEGO pieces are on display. The works included portray the likeness of classic celebrities such as Carrie Fisher, Madonna, and even RuPaul; figures who inspired Samuel from his youth. Rendering these icons from his childhood with LEGO, Samuel pays homage to these figures for the role they played in his upbringing.
