Mari Pruks

Ann Arbor, MI

Mari Pruks is originally from Estonia, but now lives full time in the United States. Her work is comprised of digitally manipulated images. Through the use of photoshop, Mari combines elements from several photos to create surrealist landscapes wherein objects are stretched out, colors are changed, and textures are superimposed. Mari imbues each piece with sentimentality by incorporating objects that are important to her, like her daughter’s dress or handwritten notes from a loved one. Mari calls her process “painting with the machine.” In addition to being an artist, Mari is a full time psychotherapist specializing in addiction and trauma counseling.
