A One-Day Art Retreat to Reconnect With Your Creative Flow

There are seasons in every artist’s life when the work begins to feel familiar—too familiar. You find yourself returning to the same colors, the same gestures, the same compositions, not because they’re calling to you, but because they’re safe. The paintings aren’t wrong… they’re simply no longer surprising you.

Often, this happens quietly, especially when you’re working alone.

Days pass in the studio, and while you’re making work, something deeper feels paused—your curiosity, your intuition, your connection to why you create in the first place.

This one-day artist retreat was created for that moment.

A Day to Slow Down and Listen Again

Before we can move forward creatively, we often need to slow down—to create space to listen, notice, and reconnect with ourselves and our process. This retreat is an invitation to step out of isolation and into a shared, intentional space where exploration is encouraged and outcomes are secondary.

Led by artist and mentor Valerie Allen, the day centers on creative flow—not as something to force, but as something to gently re-enter. Through guided reflection, conversation, and hands-on exploration, you’ll begin to loosen patterns that no longer serve you and make room for what wants to emerge next.

Here, the focus isn’t on fixing your work—it’s on reconnecting with it.

Preparing the Ground Before the Paint Touches the Surface

We’ll begin the day together in conversation, sharing reflections and gently setting collective intentions. This opening creates a sense of trust and shared purpose—reminding you that you’re not alone in the questions you’re carrying.

Working From Curiosity, Not Control

Throughout the day, Valerie will guide a series of demonstrations using a range of acrylic materials—gels, pastes, mediums, and additives—chosen specifically to interrupt routine and invite experimentation. These materials encourage movement, layering, and play, helping you step beyond habitual ways of working and into discovery.

Rather than focusing on a single finished piece, you’ll create at least one small work (12x12 board). This approach removes pressure and allows ideas to unfold naturally—one experiment leading to another, intuition guiding your next move. Often, it’s within these quieter, less-constrained moments that new directions reveal themselves.

The Power of Being Seen and Heard

Creative flow doesn’t happen in isolation—it deepens through connection.

A shared lunch offers space to relax, talk openly, and connect with other artists navigating similar questions. These informal moments—between brushes and conversations—often become the most meaningful, offering validation, insight, and a renewed sense of belonging.

The day closes with a gentle group sharing and discussion. This is not about critique in the traditional sense, but about witnessing—naming what emerged, reflecting on shifts you felt, and articulating what you want to carry forward into your practice.

Leave With More Than Just Paint on Your Hands

This six-hour retreat is designed to help you reconnect—with your intuition, your curiosity, and the deeper rhythms of your creative process. You’ll leave feeling re-energized, supported, and more attuned to what your work is asking of you next.

Not with answers—but with momentum.

This Retreat Is for Artists Who…

  • Feel creatively stuck or disconnected, even though they’re still producing work

  • Notice themselves repeating familiar patterns without knowing how to break them

  • Crave meaningful connection with other artists who understand the inner process

  • Want time and space to experiment without pressure or expectation

  • Are ready to slow down so something new can emerge
